Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:
- The competition in Atlanta’s real estate market is slowing down, but prices are still higher than expected. Inventory is slowing increasing while interest rate do the same. Experts say not to try and plan when to buy around interest rates; instead, rely on local financing and refinancing in the future. (Atlanta Magazine)
- A metro Atlanta standoff that made national news in 2017 has inspired the new thriller ‘Breaking.’ The movie will center around Marine Corps veteran Brian Brown-Easley who walked into a Cobb County bank and claimed to have a bomb and took two people hostage. The movie stars Golden Globe winner John Bodega as Easley. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Gun sales in Georgia are considered the 10th lowest in the United States with about 32.7 firearms sold for every 1,000 people, according to data from January 2022 through July 2022. In 2021, the gun sale rate in Georgia was 33.7 percent higher. (Patch)
- Atlanta rapper Paper Lovee, 26, has been sentenced to over seven years of federal prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The rapper, Ibis Durr, was charged in 2021 after a warrant was issued for his arrest and he led police on a high speed chase where her crashed into two police cars and another motorist’s vehicle. Durr’s prior charges include robbery and aggravated assault. (Macon Telegraph)
- Tory Lenard Troup, 52, of Atlanta, has been sentenced as the ringleader of Atlanta-based cocaine traffickers, money launderers, and fraudsters. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, as well as conspiracy to commit money laundering. Six individuals were sentenced prior to the ringleader.
