SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), February 15 (SeeNews) – Bosnia’s Bihac airport operator has signed an agreement with local construction project designer Euroing and Italy’s Tecno Engineering 2C to prepare an aeronautical study for the planned construction of an international airport, the Bihac city government said.
The study should define what types of aircraft will be able to use the future airport’s services, the city government said in a statement on Monday.
The deadline for delivering the study is 120 days from the signing date. The airport operator will finance the works using funds provided by the government of Bosnia’s Federation entity.
The Federation’s government said in late December it will allocate some 5 million marka ($2.9 million/2.6 million euro) to finance expenditures related to the construction of a new airport in Bihac.
Bihac currently has only a small sports airport. In 2016, the Federation decided to work towards building a bigger airport for civilian flights to help boost the economy of the region. The construction of a new airport could require an estimated investment of some 100 million marka, according to earlier media reports.
The Federation is one of two autonomous entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Serb Republic.
