GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) – Genesee County voters approved school funding in the May 3 election.
Voters approved Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools’ operating millage renewal with 70 percent of the vote.
The renewed property tax on businesses will generate around $7 million per year for the district to operate.
Carman-Ainsworth’s sinking fund was also passed with the support of 68 percent of voters.
The fund generates about $400,000 for school safety upgrades, building repairs, and athletic facility upgrades. Unlike the operating millage, this renewal taxes all property owners.
And in Genesee Township, voters approved a more than $20 million bond proposal on Tuesday for Kearsley Community Schools.
The district said the 28-year bond will fund safety and security upgrades, building remodeling, improved parking lots, and a new community recreation facility.
The average homeowner is expected to pay about 54 cents more per day in property taxes.
