TAM Consultants, a Williamsburg engineering firm with almost two decades of history in Hampton Roads, has been scooped up by a national agency, Kansas-based Terracon Consultants.
Terracon spokeswoman Brenda Kramer said the deal with bring several benefits to TAM employees and clients.
“This merger allows TAM to bring an even broader range of consulting engineering services to our clients and the region, drawing on Terracon’s national presence and resources, and offers new career development opportunities for its team,” Kramer said in an email.
Founded in 2002, TAM is a 15-person firm with offices in Williamsburg, Newport News and Richmond. The company offers professional services like building consulting, structural engineering, property assessment, forensic and investigative engineering, roofing consulting and project management.
TAM founder and CEO Timothy Mills said in a news release that the acquisition was a natural next step.
“Our core foundation of structural engineering, design, and project management has allowed us to build powerful relationships in the Tidewater region and beyond,” Mills said. “Our ability to provide our clients with complementary services greatly enhances our ability to deliver an exceptional experience.”
Kramer declined to comment on the specific transaction, but said that in general, Terracon looks for strategic acquisitions to enhance its ability to serve customers. The firm acquired two other Mid-Atlantic firms in recent years: Skelly and Loy of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 2020 and GeoConcepts of Ashburn in 2017.
As part of the acquisition, all TAM employees will retain their positions, Kramer said. TAM will now do business as TAM Consultants, A Terracon Company.
Terracon is based in Olathe, Kansas, with more than 150 offices and services available in all 50 states. The employee-owned firm was founded in 1965 and offers consulting services in disaster response, health care, transportation infrastructure, power generation, oil and gas, industrial, telecommunications and other types of projects.
