The Department of Architecture and the Built Environment is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to join its Architecture Subject Group as Associate Professor/Professor in Interior Architecture to enhance and lead on research, research funding, teaching and academic activities within the subject group.
The role holder will contribute to and provide strategic leadership on research activities in alignment with Northumbria University’s REF 2021 Unit of Assessment 13 submission, to build upon its excellence in research by design, particularly within the fields of:
- Interior Architecture
- Creative Heritage
- Adaptive reuse
Applicants should have returned in previous Research Excellence Frameworks (or equivalent in other countries) with outputs directly relating to interior architecture, the interior and adaptive reuse as research by design, built artefact and/or publication. Successful candidates will provide strategic leadership and research mentoring, support, and the development of academic research careers within the Subject Group.
Our RIBA NE Award winning Sutherland Studios provide our staff and over 400 students of Architecture and Interior Architecture with outstanding facilities and affirm the design studios place at the centre of our educational ideology. Therefore, we seek interest from outstanding candidates who have experience leading studio-based design education and who will enhance the Subject Group and the Department through their leadership in design education, development, and delivery in Interior Architecture.
You must hold a first degree, with subject expertise in Interior Architecture, design, or adaptive reuse and be qualified to Doctoral level, or have equivalent professional experience through design practice or consultancy. Proven ability to deliver high quality research led teaching and a publication profile commensurate with the post of Associate Professor/ Professor are essential.
